As an attorney, I represent employees in employment law matters. Some examples:
ERISA DISABILITY CLAIMS: I represent disabled employees who have short and long term disability insurance through work and have had those claims denied. I also consult with Social Security and workers compensation attorneys regarding their clients' ERISA claims.
EDUCATION LAW: I represent public school teachers with employment issues throughout western North Carolina. I am a member of the legal team that serves the North Carolina Association of Educators and also represent educators who are not members of NCAE.
UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS: I represent workers who have lost their jobs, whose employers contest their right to draw unemployment benefits. I also assist when DES claims a worker owes an overpayment of unemployment benefits.
In addition to the above, I advise employees regarding illegal terminations, discrimination, severance agreements, non-compete agreements and other areas of employment law. I also advise writers regarding publishing contracts and other legal issues pertaining to publication.
I am an honors graduate of the University of North Carolina School of Law, where I was an Articles Editor for the North Carolina Law Review. I am a past Chair of the NC Bar Association Labor & Employment Law Section and have practiced law for 34 years in Asheville and Boston.
